It turns out that diodes and wires are actually significantly different, 
even in steady state. In the absolutely simplest case, where there is 
only a single linear flow, with a diode in the forward direction, there 
may still be something like a 0.5V drop through the diode. Once the 
circuit includes more branches, the differences between diodes and wire 
increase quite dramatically.
