Indie games?

After the recent discussions about indie games and getting them published
I got a bit curious.

Can single persons still make games that get published more officially
than "downsuck from here and pay me 25€"? Is it worth even to try to get
something published? Is the games bussiness as evil as the music bussiness
where the developers end up with virtually nothing except bills?

No, I don't have anything I'd like to get published. H*ll, I'd have to be
happy if someone would even download our game for free! :)
