file synchronization software

Some time last year, someone on this list suggested a piece of software. It 
was used to keep assets in sync over several machines, like rsync but with a 
few extra features (like keeping up to n backup copies).

I cannot remember the name. It was a command line tool, it was free, and 
there was a linux client and server that I tried out back then.

Can anyone help me remember?
