Newbie Question -- Compiling Error using Fedora Core 4

I just installed Fedora Core 4 and wanted to try compiling ROM. When I 
attempt to run the make file I get:

make
gcc -c -Wall -O -g  act_comm.c

Now I am sure this has something to do wtih Fedora using GCC 4.0, Anyone 
know what all I would need to change to get this to compile under 4.0 or 
possible a link to a 24b6 source where someone has already done this?
