Another thing you can do, is that I believe that function defaults to a send_to_char for the output... change that to a page_to_char call and it will use an actual BUFFER * object to hold the output and only spew it 1 page at a time to the character...

I don't claim to have written that, just found it a couple of years back, and it's helped me quite a bit.
Basically this will get rid of a lot of your buffer overflow problems, as it expands the buffer as necessary. Quite usefull if you've got a few areas in your game :)
