I can mostly only expand upon what I said in my previous email: I feel it is not a good target because there are already other folks working on the engine, and there are many other really helpful open tasks which have no contributors at all which could be done instead. Working on AGS would present additional logistical challenges in an already complicated and time-sensitive process, by requiring that the work be coordinated with an extra third party. Given the challenges already discussed in this thread regarding lack of time and amount of effort needed just to fulfil the basic requirements of the GSoC programme, it seems unnecessary to introduce these additional levels of uncertainty and work into the process. It would also seem to me that the other people working on AGS should be talked to to even see how they would feel about potentially working with a GSoC student, as they may not want to do this. Is this clear and makes sense? If it still seems like a good target, could you share your plans on how these extra challenges would be managed? There are several other in-progress engines, many of which you have already worked on or even presented as GSoC ideas in the past (several of which are actually on the GSoC Ideas 2018 page now, which is great), which would be lower-risk targets and which would not result in the extra energy needed to coordinate efforts with a third party. There are, of course, the various TODOs on http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/TODO, as well as past ideas in the GSoC Ideas history, http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php?title=GSoC_Ideas&oldid=21589, etc. to pick from. I think there are so many great ideas here already that I don’t feel like I need to add any new ones to the mix.
