The most tricky part of a codebase is often mastered by a few, simply because to get it you need some/a lot of experience under your belt. And the few may turn into only one if you have a small team. As a dev, I am all for new better languages/libs/whatever but as a technical director, I want my assumptions about the progress of the project to stay valid, hence a stable set of known tools.
