Sure, maybe you don't want to give up your C++ *now*. But when do you think even you will throw in the towel? At some future calendar date, that line is gonna get crossed by most developers, same as it was for ASM. I think if C++ ever gets officially sanctioned GC, that will be its death knell. Once lots of C++ programmers accept GC, a lot of them will start to wonder why they're bothering with C++'s other problems. They'll jump ship, to languages that were designed more recently and took GC as a given, rather than shoehorned in later.
