Why can't we think ahead but validate our thinking with CI testing? > But I'm somewhat baffled that my suggestion of, in effect, "think before > you type" is actually being met with resistance. I don't perceive anyone as actually having expressed resistance to the idea of thinking ahead. I don't know if you feel this way or not, but I commonly see people expressing the idea that agile development is incompatible with thinking ahead or that "true" agile development somehow prohibits thinking ahead. Nothing could be further from the truth. Maybe they get this idea from the agile manifesto's statement that it values "responding to change over following a plan". It doesn't say "do not plan"; the agile manifesto was created in response to an environment where people were drowning in specifications (i.e. plans) and yet still building the wrong thing based on customer feedback. In a gaming studio, "responding to change over following a plan" would mean to me things like adjusting game play based on test play groups, even if your original plan/architecture/whatever had something different and it means ditching parts or all of your original plan/architecture/whatever. Maybe a game like "The Daedalus Encounter" probably wouldn't have been such a piece of shit if they had responded to change instead of following their plan. -- "The Direct3D Graphics Pipeline" -- DirectX 9 draft available for download <http://legalizeadulthood.wordpress.com/the-direct3d-graphics-pipeline/> Legalize Adulthood! <http://legalizeadulthood.wordpress.com> _______________________________________________ Sweng-Gamedev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.midnightryder.com/listinfo.cgi/sweng-gamedev-midnightryder.com
