While we are at tools: Did you know that Visual C++ 2005 Express is absolutely free (even for commercial use)? It features the same optimizing compiler, and the only major things it misses are the ATL and MFC libraries, and some advanced features like remote debugging.. It also uses the online MSDN for help, which means it does not eat up your harddrive, and it's more up to date. I think it's worth giving a try. I'm sorry if this is not news, but I've only found it out recently and was pleasantly surprised. I think it's great for indie developers.
