Clark,

Now who's putting words into who's mouth. "Acting suspicious" is not a
death sentence. Acting like a suspcious terrorist might well be. This
guy wasn't "acting suspicious" while shoplifting a sweater from a
department store. He was acting suspcious coming out of a building
under survellience, he acted suspcious when questioned, he acted
suspicious when he fled, and he acted suspicious when he allegedly
jumped the turnstile to board a crowded train. Now, given all of
those parameters, the cops on the scene - not you or I - had to make the
call, and they made it. Right or wrong, they had to make the tough
decisions.

Now, if you DON'T want them to make that call, WHY GIVE THEM GUNS? If
you do give them guns, then they have to allowed to use them when they
think public safety is at risk, and if so, you have to figure that
occassionally, tragedy may result. It isn't an easy job, and they don't
deserve to be accused of making street executions. But we'll have to
differ in that aspect, I guess. I tend to give cops the benefit of the
doubt, reserving criticism until after the investigation.

You accuse them of being no better than assassins and jackbooted thugs
and frankly I don't think anything short of the guy having a bomb would
convince you otherwise ... and maybe not even then. Had he had a bomb,
would you be criticising the police for killing him? I'm betting you would.
