Yeah, this is always a wonder to me too.  I'll bet they could have saved a lot of weight if they had smaller microchips and such as we have now.  We could have brought home more rocks anyway.

I wonder how much of the mission calculations were done with a slide rule and paper and pencil?  Don't know the ages of most of the folks here, but I'll bet that Bill Highfield, for one (since I know his age), never had to ever use a slide rule.  Just mentioning it makes me feel old since I used it in HS math.
