The usual medical practice is to operate on old people only if there is no chance of recovery through medication. That's because the operation itself can be life-threatening for them. In Tony Banks' case, his brain had already been damaged beyond repair by the stroke, while Sharon was suffering from haemorrhaging and his brain had not suffered too much damage. Sharon's operation was too remove excess fluid build-up.

  Incidently Bill, there is a former British minister who is 15 years younger than Sharon who is presently in a 
  Florida hospital in a similar condition to that of Ariel Sharon. Do you think they will be operating on his 
  brain? It is not exactly usual treatment after a stroke is it?
