Not really, no. The target group of card games and
strategy games are quite different. People who play
Dip are likely to get addicted to games like
Civilisation, Age of Empires, Spartan and the likes.
Before 1998 or so, the only descent game was
Civilisation I (and perhaps Colonization). So, not
only does one make time to play such games, it is also
highly unlikely that 7 people will find an common
afternoon to get introduced to a board game, when they
can easily setup something quite satisfactory. 

I agree though that the core players who have stayed
on, are really interested in the game. But the bulk of
future recruits will have to come from people who have
many attractive alternatives.
