I am assuming the question was not tongue-in-cheek (I don't know how old or
young some people here are.)GEnie was an on-line service like Compuserve.
You paid for it by the minute. It was all text-based, but it had the best
format for discussions that I've ever encountered, especially if you used a
program called Aladdin to run it. GEnie was sponsored by General Electric,
hence the name. I initially used it for the science fiction forum and one
day wandered over to the Diplomacy forum, discovering a great bunch of
players who became friends. I got to meet a great many at the yearly gaming
tournament in Hunt Valley, Maryland, but haven't able to make a tourney in
several years.
