I agree with David's suggestions, and I'd say an updated website and name (with a bit of cross-linking with other diplomacy websites to boost us up the google hierarchy) would definitely help.

Personally I've been bemoaning the lack of a diplomacy application on Facebook - anyone techie enough to get that to work? There's a couple of risk applications already, so it's certainly doable, and it could link to the traditional e-mail Cat23 website to maintain tradition.

Christiano, the people who wanted to play Crowded (or similar) were the only takers. Games like Escalation and Stab used to get filled in a couple of days, so I don't think it's that. Happy to run a game of Escalation instead though.

regards,
Stephen

  Folks,
I agree with David. This is the place I got my
start. It's the place I first had the guts to GM. This
is the place I've called home (for Diplomacy, of
  course,) for many years now.
Having recently joined a couple other Dip
communities, and seen the level of participation among
their long-time members, I'm saddened and a little
disappointed by the Cat. We've got members who were
here well before the ACD (SCD/Academy),
DiplomaticCorps or RedScape communities even existed!
This is one of the oldest, still existing PBeM
  Diplomacy communities, am I right?
We definitely need to do something. Dip by Email is
NOT dead or dying, so why is the Cat?

David - if you need any help with your webpage
project, feel free to call on me. I don't know much in
the way of web design or HTML, but I may be able to
throw out a suggestion or some such here or there.
Anyone else - if there is any way you feel you can
help, DO IT! If there's anything you think you can do
to contribute to the revitalization of the Cat
community, step up to the plate. I'm sure I'm not the
only one willing to help, so send out that Email, tell
us what you're thinking, solicit a helping hand.
This is our community now. As David said, Ray has
moved on with his life, and the Cat has suffered
terribly because we were so dependent upon one man. In
the military, we call that a single point of failure.
If we can avoid that in the future, great. If not, at
least we should find a new point and have backups
ready to step up if that new person goes the way of
  Ray.

  I suppose I didn't say anything new, but I felt I
needed to contribute my two cents to this discussion.
The main point, I guess, is that I'm behind this
community 100%, and I think I'm not the only one
willing to help. We just need to identify those other
  people.

  The White Wolf
