Glad to see you found the place, Alan.  There can be life in the old Cat 
yet.  There are too many different preferences for styles of play, methods 
of adjudication, email vs. web interface, rating systems (or not), etc., for 
there to ever be a single group that everyone will belong to.

By the way, I don't have to imagine what you are hoping for.  That is what 
Cat23 was, several years ago.  Multiple game starts each week, many filling 
up within hours of announcement, and even large and unusual variants would 
fill up within a very few days.  There are many more communities than there 
used to be, though.

Cat-23 was the first place I ever played an email version of Diplomacy.  As 
a new member I would like to point out that it is nearly impossible to find, 
and even harder to join.  I needed a Cat-23 veteran to help me through the 
process.  With that being said I think Cat-23 would benefit from an easier 
more accessible web page.  In my opinion (which unlike the rest of you is 
not controlled by my own nastalgia for the Cat-23 group) I believe the best 
(although perhaps unlikely) solution would be to merge all of the Diplomacy 
communities into one easily accessible Diplomacy group.  When everybody who 
wants to play diplomacy is under one roof, it will create great 
opportunities for the diplomacy community.  Imagine a place where a game 
varient such as crowded could be filled up in no time.

I have a soft spot for the cat, though I mostly am in the ACD now, so a 
couple of suggestions:Work with Chris Babcock, who got the worldmasters.net 
domain and the shell of the old site from Ray, to add interest and 
functionality to the site.Pump up the publicity by adding Cat23 to the 
Diplomacy Webring, and add a link to the web site and some explanatory 
material to your email signatures and/or the links pages of your personal 
dip pages.
