Not quite.  To fill in the general public, the most important reason for the 
formation of the SCD was that at the time, the Academy had a limitation of 
membership (seventy active member maximum).  The SCD never really split off, 
but was founded independently.  There was always a big overlap in 
memberships though, and since the two groups had basically the same purpose, 
when both recently entered a period of relative quiet, they merged to form 
the ACD, which I am pleased to report is flourishing.
