Cat-23 Diplomacy Game 1230 - Game Start Welcome to the game! Please read all of this email even [especially!] if you don't read the House Rules. Can each player please reply to this mail by return, to indicate that he will indeed be playing. Players and Great Power assignments: AUSTRIA - Adam Silverman - [email protected] BALKAN - Rob Bristol - [email protected] [home], [email protected] [work] ENGLAND - Andrew Laffin - [email protected] FRANCE - Adam Bushashia - [email protected] GERMANY - Andy Bandit - [email protected] ITALY - Mikael Johansson - [email protected] LOWLAND - James T - [email protected] NORWAY - Adam Levy - [email protected] RUSSIA - Stephen Worthy - [email protected] SPAIN - Mike Leonard - [email protected] TURKEY - Peter Leggett - [email protected] Observers - Russ Bynum [email protected] and Chris Morse [email protected] [home]; [email protected] [work] GM: Tony Cutcliffe [email protected] and my backup email is [email protected] This is a 'Crowded 1898' 11-player variant game, played on a slightly modified Standard Diplomacy board. Generally, the rules for this variant are exactly the same as for a Standard Diplomacy game, with a few exceptions. These exceptions are detailed in full in the House Rules, but here is a summary: 1. There are four new Powers in the game. Lowland, Balkan, Norway and Spain. Ruhr is now a supply centre and is not a part of Germany. 2. Players begin with one unit of their choice, built on one supply centre, which must be chosen from the player's normal home supply centres as part of the first Turn. 3. The first turn of the game is Winter, 1897, and the first set of orders from each Player will be his orders specifying the chosen home supply centre and what unit will be built on it. Note that agreeing to play in this game indicates acceptance of the House Rules. These have already been sent to all Players separately. Some of you may not want to go through the drudgery of reading the House Rules - if you never read them, fair enough, but I would like to highlight the following points before we begin. (Any unfamiliar terms for new players are defined in full in the House Rules proper). 1) Please would all players submit Preliminary orders each turn, especially for the first turn [Winter 1897]. I will not adjudicate before the deadline unless all Final orders are in, so you have nothing to lose by submitting prelims. 2) Please note that, when reading orders, I *always* rule the abbreviation 'Nor' as ambiguous except when there is *only one* possible interpretation of the order. 3) Since my family and I are involved in many different Dip games, we use an email filter. To ensure that your orders and other mail arrive in the correct folder on my PC, please ensure that the Subject line contains *at least* the game number (1230) and preferably the message body should contain the move season as well. I reserve the right to not have to search through all my inboxes for missing orders! 4) You must individually order *all* units that you wish to perform an action, on each turn. Units not specifically ordered will be taken as being ordered to hold, and unit orders will *not* be inferred from 'composite' orders. 5) This is a 'No NMR' game; if a Player leaves the game, a replacement Player will be found before the game continues. This may well involve replaying the Diplomacy period preceding the turn when the Player went missing. Both our Observers have graciously volunteered their services in this regard. 6) Finally, and most importantly, have fun! Any questions, remember I'm here to help. Deadline for Winter 1230 orders is Tuesday, 6th September, 20:00 GMT, slightly more than the ten days anticipated - but I don't want to handicap those players who have little or no access on a weekend by giving them a weekend deadline. Good luck! Tony [GM] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Get fast access to your favorite Yahoo! Groups.
