Dip 1130 No Press Gunboat - Game Over!

The gunboat ends in a 3-way DIAS involving Austria, England and Germany two 
years and as many months after the deadline-free game kicked off.

The game should have been over in less than half the time, but a sharply 
increased workload prevented me from doing justice to a fascinating battle. 
The players were remarkably indulgent, with no one ticking me off even once 
in the entire two years - and my thanks to them for that!

Ray Erb, playing Italy, was extremely unfortunate to be eliminated just one 
round before a DIAS finally passed, after hanging on gamely till 1917. He 
gets the consolation prize!

Mark Maier (France), Alex Amann (Russia) and Carleton Harris (Turkey) went 
out much earlier. The game lasted so long that Alex graduated from Brandeis 
University - around Spring 1916.

For the last few years the game became a chessboard battle between Freeman 
(England - 15 centres) and Ian Moes (Austria - 16 centres). Ian had a bit of 
an edge, but in the end it was not enough to break the stalemate. Gregory 
Alexopoulos (Germany - 3 centres) was the third survivor, and was in fact 
the runaway leader half way through the game.

My congratulations to all on a game well-played, and my apologies for the 
snail's pace.
