/The site is looking for more people to play informal free games. It=20
will host the =93Diplomacy National World Cup=94, a team tournament=20
regrouping on national bounds and starting in September 2007*. */
*/So you are welcome to register on the /*http://www.stabbeurfou.org/=20=20
*/site NOW and volunteer to play a game=85/*
1. =93Stabbeurfou=94 the site
1.1 Intoduction to =93StabbeurFou=94 site
The =93stabbeurfou=94 expression means =93Mad Stabber=94, the =93stabbeur=
=94 word=20
being a French (neologism) transcription of the English word.
1.2 Description of =93StabbeurFou=94 site
*=93Stabbeurfou=94 is the only known web based system with automatic=20
adjudication offering an interface in several languages (French and=20
English at the present time.)*
Here are some of the advantages of a automaton adjudicator :
o The time consuming effort of adjudication is saved,
o Adjudications =96 and games themselves - are more homogeneous,
o There can not be any adjudication error (or much fewer),
o There can not be any mis-orders, since orders are validated on=20
the spot - this is unhappy for experts in the field of false mis-orders,=20
though,
o All information is available to anyone in real time, and always=20
up to date,
o Anonymous press is possible (but not to the administrator of the=20
site.) Upon complain the site administrator may remove messages=20
(anonymous or not) that violate tournament or game requirements.
o *The human touch is not lost since there is still a human being=20
to care about the game and postpone the dead line on players request,*
=93Stabbeurfou=94 also has the advantage to be designed with tournament pla=
y=20
in mind, several aspects of traditional play are also automatic, such as=20
(at least) :
o vote for ending of game,
o vote for secondary trophies,
o recall of late orders,
o detailed information about players,
o automatic email notification when orders are altered, new mail=20
in internal mailbox, deadline is approaching
Very flexible, =93Stabbeurfou=94 lets players communicate either via e-mail=
=20
or with simple internal communication mailbox system.
=93Stabbeurfou=94 has already hosted a the French speaking tournament=20
=93Interzines=94 (10 teams), and much improved from the experience. The aim=
=20
of =93Interzines=94 was to make various French communities to meet one=20
another. More information about the =93Interzines=94 may be found (in=20
French) on the =93Interzines=94 specific site :=20
http://membres.lycos.fr/interzines/
_Sidenote_ : =93Stabbeurfou=94 also allows a manual mode, in which players=
=20
do not interface with the site but the Game Master himself (or herself)=20
enters the orders of the players
1.3 Games on =93Stabbeurfou=94 site
1.3.1 Members of a game
(a) Each game is supervised by a game master who takes care of its=20
smooth running and carries out the resolution if the system is manual or=20
if the automatic system is failing.
(b) Each player will have to communicate his real identity (names and=20
first names) in addition to one possible pseudonym.
1.3.2 Results of the games
(a) The games are completed on one of the following conditions:
=B7 Outright victory of a player (=93victory with 18 centres=94),
=B7 Vote of end of the game,
=B7 Stop of the game from the game master due to stability of the centres=20
over three (3) consecutive diplomatic years,
=B7 End of the last diplomatic year (as agreed beforehand).
1.3.3 General running
(a) The duration of the deadlines will be roughly:
=B7 Deadlines for moves: one week,
=B7 Deadlines for retirements/adjustments: 48 hours.
(b) The seasonal times will be lengthened of 50% at the time of the=20
first diplomatic year.
(c) A resolution could be carried out _before the_ deadline if:
=B7 All the players who have orders to submit expressed their agreement,
=B7 No player without an order to submit has expressed his veto.
(d) The adjudication will be carried out no later than 24 hours after=20
expiration of deadline.
1.3.4 Negotiations
(a) To intervene on a game means to explicitly send a message in=20
diplomatic, strategic matter or tactic with one or more player(s) during=20
the course of the game
(b) *Contrary to the face to face games*, the negotiations are=20
authorized during all the phases of play - except after the deadline for=20
a player who did not submit the orders requested.
(c) *Contrary to face to face games*, a player eliminated from a game=20
can always intervene on a game and can take part in the negotiations to=20
determine the winner of the game.
1.3.5 Press
(a) The system may allow anonymous public statements, yet the real=20
identity of the author of the messages will be known to the system=20
administrator, and upon official request by game master anonymous=20
messages may be suppressed.
(b) The game master should not forward anonymous public statements.
(c) The system and the game master should not authorize falsified public=20
statement, i.e. usurping the identity of another player of the game.
(d) Normal courtesy is required in the contents of the presses. It is=20
possible to complain about the contents of a press to the game master,=20
who will be able to take the adequate measures.
