SULTAN FIRES GRAND ADMIRAL, SCUTTLES FLEET, AND SAILS INTO THE 
EAST!  (Smyrna) Angered at the performance of his naval units, and 
anxious to put an end to more than 5 years of active conflict in 
which Turkish units often took the worst of it, the Sultan today 
fired his Grand Admiral and ordered the scuttling of the few 
remaining vessels in his active fleet.  Coupled with the Sultan's 
decision some years ago to dismantle his army, the move leaves Turkey 
without an active military of any kind.  The Sultan wished his people 
well and urged them to cooperate fully with their Italian and Russian 
occupiers, but said that further bloodshed should be 
avoided.  Although it is reported that the governors of the province 
of Smyrna were to remain in office for another 6 months or so, they 
have reportedly agreed to surrender the government peacefully by the 
end of the year.  The Sultan, meanwhile, will spend his days in exile 
at an undisclosed location somewhere in the east.  Passage through 
the Suez Canal has been pre-arranged with the British government, 
although the details are a closely-held secret.

GM Notes:

A player has asked that further play be suspended until the New 
Year.  I have contacted him to be sure that would be necessary, so 
the Dec. 21 deadline is tentative only.  I expect we will postpone 
until Jan. 9th or so, but I will announce further when I know for certain.

I am sending no map for this phase at the moment, although if we do 
postpone until after the holidays, I will send a current map for you to ponder.
