Congratulations to John Gillooly on winning the 2010 tournament. The final round top board (http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/?game=owlsopen10_3a) turned into an epic game. After the midgame it looked to be heading to a draw with a large France/German alliance - where France (Stephen Muzzatti) would have secured the title. Then came a number of probing mini-stabs and then the real push from John's Germany. The position looked almost safe for the minor power alliance, but perseverance paid off and John found the last centre in the East. And with it took the title for 2010. Great game by both John and Stephen and thanks to everyone who played the tournament. Honorable mention to 3rd placed Mr Consistent Michael Binder, yet to break through for an Owls solo but always hard to keep out of the draw. Great result also for Orange Belt Ed Rustin claiming 4th, who has been a long time Owls player with more than 50 games under his belt. The 2011 Owls Open Tournament is filling now.
