Hey Gang,

I'm not sure why Mario is having such a tough time recruiting for Peace
Out, a game that uses the Ambition & Empire map and rules. My guess is that
folks take a casual look at the map, convince themselves that certain
positions are strong and others are not, and dismiss the variant without giving
it much more thought. If true, let me assure you that such an attitude is
a mistake.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Diplomacy Point (DP)/Armed Neutral
mechanism, Jeff Kase and I put it in place specifically to even out the
playing field. Major Powers that do not have the same access to minor powers
as other Major Powers do can use their DPs to facilitate or to frustrate
the plans of their neighbors. This ability to help orchestrate the actions
of the minor powers gives the supposedly weaker Major Powers influence and
leverage that they otherwise might not have.

I have the records to prove that all of the Major Powers that start with
only two SCs have enjoyed tremendous success (and yes, if you are wondering,
Poland & Saxony has soloed!). Likewise, the Major Powers that start
with three or four SCs regularly find themselves at the tender mercies of
their supposedly weaker neighbors.

If you are interested, there are several articles on Ambition & Empire in
the Dip Pouch Zine. Take a look at them. Do so, however, after you have
signed up for Peace-Out!

Ambition & Empire is a delightful variant that has served as the
inspiration for other successful variants. Almost universally, those that have
tried Ambition & Empire have been pleasantly surprised and have come back
again and again. Mario and Manus put in a lot of time and effort to make the
variant work on DPJudge. It's time to reward them for their effort and to
reward yourself for being adventurous.

Sign up now and let's get this game going. I do not think you will be
disappointed.

Baron (VonPowell)
Ambition & Empire Co-Designer

PS: Feel free to contact me at [email protected]_
(mailto:[email protected]) if you have any question on the variant.

PPS: Tell Mario you insist on using the official Ambition & Empire rules
that include the DPs and armed neutrals. There is no such thing as
"vanilla" Ambition & Empire. It's meant to be played with DPs and it works well
because of them.
