Drive by spam and moderation

Do we have a moderator that is monitoring the group?  I notice that 
there is only one listed. Is he active?  I make these suggestions:

1.  Ban this Josalyne ID, and the others that have been spamming the 
list for the past few weeks.

2.  Appoint more than one moderator.  Having just this one that 
serves the entire community is asking for trouble.  If our single 
moderator disappears or dies, no one else will be able to run the 
group.

3.  Put all new members on moderated status until their ID and intent 
is, at which point they could be made full members.  That would 
prevent the random drive by spam.

Yes, I would volunteer to be one of the moderators if asked but I'm 
not campaigning for the job.  Oh, and if someone could delete the 
spam posts already in the system, that would be nice too.
