Unfortunately the last time I was favourite in a semi all those nasty neighbours took it as an open-house invitation to gang up on me. 

However let's be positive about this - lightning can't possibly strike twice ;-)

a) This is not very clever. I mean attacking someone to the bitter end to the pretext he's outstandlingly better. If really you have a level which justify this status of favourite, this simply mean you will be very hard meat and one of the players who is NOT your neighbour will win while you make waste their time to the attackers.
b) If they are good players, some of them will be good enough to stop when they see they don't gain of it, and then if you play very well you might have your chance in your turn. BOP effect. Especially in such a long ;-) game as 9 years !
