This game has now just finished Spring 1909 as well. I don't have a map, but if I am following the adjudication correctly, it appears that it is almost guaranteed that Italy and Turkey will finish 1-2 and advance to the semis. Turkey was tied for second with 8 behind Italy's 9, but has occupied Spain this spring. While he could be dislodged, it looks like he would most likely have Portugal as a retreat option. Even if he doesn't pick up another center, England's loss of Holland still puts him in second place. England does not look to be in position to either regain Holland or pick up Belgium or Kiel without a change in recent alliances. France has picked up Holland, but lost Spain. Even if Spain can be retaken, it will likely be at the cost of either Portugal or Marseilles. Germany is the only other player still around, and he is not a threat to challenge for second place. Perhaps the only drama down the stretch is whether Turkey stabs Italy for first place. There is some motivation since Turkey is a member of the Riders and a first place could well vault them into the team tournament lead. This would be unfortunate for Italy because a second definitely would leave him on the outside of the semis and a shared top would put him around the bubble. Then again, I can't even tell if Turkey has the units to stab for Serbia since the units in Rumania and Bulgaria could well be fleets. Of course, if Turkey holds onto Spain and Italy can't pick up another center, then there is a tie without a stab, and Italy may still be left on the outside. ------------------------ Yahoo!
