Correct me if I'm wrong, but not once in this or any discussion have I heard a "real" contributor say, "that's a great idea, let's work together to code it up." I've seen plenty of "here's where and how YOU can commit it." But otherwise my overall take is that the atmosphere for input is less than welcoming unless you've passed the "commit" test. > > That probably depends on whether it is core code FlightGear (C/C++) which has a bit stricter policy, Nasal (a bit less strict) or work with an aircraft developer. Right, but also: if I or any core developer thought it was a *great* idea, then we likely *would* offer to code 50% of it, and indeed the commit history shows I’ve done that plenty of times in the past few years. (And this is true for aircraft or whatever). Sometimes it’s even been 90% of the development effort, but that’s because I thought it was an idea worth trying. But if you post an idea that I’m not convinced by, I’m not going to offer that: I will instead wait for you produce a PoC that we can try in the real world. Maybe someone else will offer to help - that’s their choice of course. And if you ask for some technical help making a PoC of say, a user-submitted ratings system, or a filtering UI for tags, I will absolutely reply with the info to help **you** do that. But just supplying the idea and feeling strongly about it doesn’t motivate anyone else very far. Whereas, if you’d made a bunch of fixes and improvements to the existing aircraft ratings, and then had a proposal based on that experience and working relationship, i can guess it would be a smoother process :) Kind regards, James _______________________________________________ Flightgear-devel mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/flightgear-devel
