You should indeed use a vstab element, but specify a dihedral of 0 
(or 180) instead of the default dihedral of 90.

'The default dihedral, if unspecified, is 90 degrees instead of 
zero.  But all parameters are equally settable, so there's no 
requirement that this object be "vertical" at all.'
