Thanks, Vivian, the version of the file freedom-2.4.xml appears to work great on my mac.  All the axes work like I expect them, and the buttons that I can test work like I expect.  I haven't tested the buttons for the trigger and the prop adjustment, because the aircraft I'm flying doesn't support those properties.  (I don't think they've mounted guns on a Cessna 172).
