Hi Yan,

I have not been impressed with the slimline PC's I've tried -- I've found
they often come with a power supply that is marginal for the base hardware,
and even if there are expansions slots for installing a decent video card,
often the power supply can't support it anyway.  You are probably going to
get the most bang for your buck, and the most power if you go with a
traditional 'mid-size' tower style case.  If you aren't planning to build
the system yourself, at least make sure you get a system with a beefy
enough power supply and full height expansions slots so you can install a
high end video card.

At one point in my life I was tempted by a cheap slimline HP system and it
even had built in nvidia video hardware, but it turned out the built in
video was analog VGA only --

So my point is to just be very careful-- there are many hidden traps when
you try to cut size or cut costs, and things you might not think about
until later after you've already voided the warranty. :-)

That said, configuring a modern linux system to autologin and launch an
application should be pretty straight forward depending on which desktop
system you are running.
