Hi all,
1) I've been attempting to build a low resolution version of the
scenery. Fred of the FlightGear Scenery Designer project has helped
quite a bit, but I haven't been able to get the polygon count per tile
low enough. It appears the code will have to be tweeked to get the
count as low as I can get it (about 400 triangles per tile or less).
Any pointers on what modules and variables need changed will help.
I've already used terrafit.py with low numbers, but after tgvpf is ran
the count goes back up--judging by resultant scenery. The lowest per
tile I've acheived is about 1100 for w130n40/w123n47/942682.btg.gz--this
is Seattle (KSEA) which has hills, lakes, rivers, and ocean and everything.
I suspect if I eliminate roads, railroads, town, etc..., and just use
ocean, lakes, and default terrain, that I could do somewhat better.
2) The resulting scenery requires a reference system where y=north,
x=east, z=altitude, and the center point is primary airport for model
(KSEA in the above tile) {Curt alluded to such a transform a few days
ago in the fgfs-devel list}.
Is there a specific transform that will achieve this or something
close? Would it be easier to apply these in TerraGear and rebuild?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Dale
