Most of the world has been built from 3 arcsec SRTM data. However, this
data is first run through a data reduction and approximation algorithm.
This algorithm produces a smaller model that still follows the original
data within some specified error tolerance. There is a minimum and
maximum number of nodes so that there will always be at least 50 nodes
inserted into the resulting model, even if the error tolerance is
reached, and there will never be more than 1000 nodes even if the error
tolerence isn't reached.

Curt.
