This could be used in determining texture choices. It would also be interesting to have some model for green up in the spring and or fall colors and the transition to everything being brown. And of have this dependent on seasonal sunlight and accumulated weather conditions. For the usa you can get snow cover maps, and even satallite based "green-up" maps. It would be nice to some day get this all integrated with FlightGear for either selecting which set of seasonal textures to use, or perhaps doing some color tinting, or something like that ... Just pondering ... any of this would be a long way over the horizon in terms of my own todo list ...
