Hi,

So, I'm trying to learn TerraGear. I built it with no issues whatsoever
-- it was trivial. Getting the data -- not too hard either. Processing
it, OTOH . . .

I figured a good starting place would be to try to reproduce a tile as
it currently exists in the most recent scenery; I've been doing some
airport mods with TaxiDraw and decided on a tile containing one of the
airports I've done. So my understanding is that the most recent FG
scenery was done with SRTM1 as the DEM; so, that means I need to get
the SRTM1 data for the region of interest.

Dave Megginson's updated docs indicate that to get the recent SRTM1 docs,
one can download the tiles by FTP, or go to Seamless and get them there.=20
However, it appears that FTP access has been turned off; you can get on
the ftp server, but the permissions for the srtm directory no longer allow
access. There's also no reference at either NASA or USGS to an ftp source
for the data -- only Seamless.

The next problem is that when you d'load SRTM1 data through the Seamless
interface, it doesn't come over in tiles. It comes over in one huge ".adf"
file; none of the TerraGear prep commands seem to know what to do with
these files.

So how do we access the SRTM1 data? Curt, how did you do it? Did they
still have tiles available when you got it? How to get it now?

Thanks,

-c
