Hi.  A couple of things.  First, please don't start new threads by
"reply"ing to existing threads.  Start a new thread instead.

In answer to your question, yes, many many people have thought of
this.  There are various problems with doing so, however, the largest
being that the .bgl file format is closed -- Microsoft doesn't want
you to be able to do things like that.  It's possible to reverse-
engineer the file format, of course; and if you poke around on the
web for a while, you'll find partially-complete descriptions of the
BGL file format that various people have done.  However, there's
still a lot of work left to do to understand the format, to say
nothing of creating the tool that would convert the contents into
stuff FlightGear can work with.  Then, add onto that the fact
that if history is any guide, the .bgl format will change with
the next MSFS release, and people have generally felt like working
on other issues that seem more pressing to them.

That said, it's certainly the case that there's a ton of freeware
scenery out there in the existing format; if conversion software
like this is something you want to work on, I think that'd be
great.
