Hi. A couple of things. First, please don't start new threads by "reply"ing to existing threads. Start a new thread instead. In answer to your question, yes, many many people have thought of this. There are various problems with doing so, however, the largest being that the .bgl file format is closed -- Microsoft doesn't want you to be able to do things like that. It's possible to reverse- engineer the file format, of course; and if you poke around on the web for a while, you'll find partially-complete descriptions of the BGL file format that various people have done. However, there's still a lot of work left to do to understand the format, to say nothing of creating the tool that would convert the contents into stuff FlightGear can work with. Then, add onto that the fact that if history is any guide, the .bgl format will change with the next MSFS release, and people have generally felt like working on other issues that seem more pressing to them. That said, it's certainly the case that there's a ton of freeware scenery out there in the existing format; if conversion software like this is something you want to work on, I think that'd be great. -c --=20 Chris Metzler [email protected] (remove "snip-me." to email) "As a child I understood how to give; I have forgotten this grace since I have become civilized." - Chief Luther Standing Bear --Sig_cC9I10RyAKCLUqFfpN0Q0QW Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=signature.asc -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFEIWopEqzZtgaaqqERAg2GAJ9Bd14Bvp8rIw8gBH8pmBWixPDvqgCeK3Qs lyfLDKRXt8ip+sec7PH52ws= =3uwF -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Sig_cC9I10RyAKCLUqFfpN0Q0QW-- --===============1639633852== Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline _______________________________________________ Terragear-devel mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flightgear.org/mailman/listinfo/terragear-devel 2f585eeea02e2c79d7b1d8c4963bae2d --===============1639633852==--
