The first release candidate for Freeciv 3.0.0 is now available as
source code for download.

This is mainly a bugfix release. See the full change list from beta3 at
<http://www.freeciv.org/wiki/NEWS-3.0.0-RC1>.

Major 3.0.x features are civ2civ3 being the default ruleset, addition
of the alien ruleset, hex maps as the default topology on new
installations, and a whole lot of extra flexibility to create custom
rulesets. See more details at
<http://www.freeciv.org/wiki/NEWS-3.0.0>.

Download the source tarball from one of our mirrors:
(Windows packages should follow shortly at the same location.)

If no showstopping bugs are reported in the near future, a very
similar build will become the next stable release, 3.0.0. Please do
report any bugs you find in this beta release.
