while in a multiplayer game, you can send chat messages, when you click into
the chat input line at the bottom of the window, and enter your message. It
will be send to *all* players.

For private messages, you need to preceed your message with the player's
name, followed by a colon.

See also the help menu, in german 'Hilfe' --> 'Chatten'
