I had a private email exchange with the person who queried and actually,
some of the strings in the PO file I submitted were translated by him. I
have dropped him an email a few days ago already, but have not received
a response yet. I'll also see if I can motivate somebody else to take
maintenance over.

FYI, the original de maintainer, Christian Knoke, has caused a lot of
grieve among the persons interested until I finally pulled the plug and
took the maintenance over without further considering him. He still owns
the [email protected] mailinglist, so I have doubts that anything
will come from that one.
