I guess, you are right about the players not paying too much attention to it. 

Personally, I think that the form of address in a document or here in a programme should be completely consistent. It should not be changed back and forth (as it is now). 

The more I think about it, the more I like the plural „Ihr“ when addressing the player in-game as the leader of the civilization. And in manuals, the tonality can be much more personal, so an „Du“ could be the way to go.
