Yeah, no one wants to be the bad guy. If anyone feels they have a legitimate concern about the suitability of a game, for whatever reason, but doesn't want to risk starting a flame war, they can always send me a note and I'll broach the subject, just to get people talking. Hopefully, that will make it easier to get discussions started on such games.
I still suspect that only the most egregious cases will be determined to be ineligible. I mean, let's go way back and consider the case of Showmanager and Atlantic Star. Mechanically, the latter is virtually the same game as the former (with only one tiny rule change). Me, as a mechanics-first guy, would say that there's no way that Atlantic Star should be eligible. But gamers who pay a lot of attention to theme and/or artwork might say that the differences in those two aspects absolutely mean that Atlantic Star should be considered a separate game from Showmanager. Without hard and fast rules (which, I suspect, would be impossible to come up with), there's no way you could say that one side is right and one side is wrong. I think that would be the case with most spinoffs we'd consider. But I'd also have no problem in implementing procedures that might allow us to eliminate some closely related spinoffs before the general election.
