Time=E2=80=99s up, everyone! The first round of voting is history! Despit=
e my
concerns about how COVID would affect this year=E2=80=99s election, we had =
a
fantastic turnout, with 85 voters, our largest total in quite a while.
Collectively, we have selected 29 terrific games to be our 2019 Meeples
Choice nominees. There were a total of 776 votes and 168(!) games got at
least one vote.
I=E2=80=99m also delighted to report that for the first time in MCA history=
(at
least, as far as I can recall), we=E2=80=99ve had a write-in nominee! Desp=
ite
being on the ballot for less than 2 days, Little Town got enough votes to
make the final round. How cool is that? Many thanks to Mark Johnson, who
suggested the game and to Wei-Hwa for coaxing the voting app=E2=80=99s code=
to make
the game available (this is the first time we=E2=80=99ve tried to introduce=
a game
in the middle of an election). Little Town is also a perfect example of a
game that deserves consideration this year, despite being originally
introduced (only in Japan) two years ago. For many years, Clay Blankenship
tried to convince me to relax the eligibility requirements to include
designs like this and I was finally able to see the wisdom of his
suggestion recently. Thank you, Clay, for your persistence.
I have just activated the final round. Once again, we=E2=80=99ll be voting=
at
http://meepleschoice.win. This time, choose no more than 3 games. And
just as before, you can change your votes as long as the polls remain open.
If anyone is having trouble with the voting application, please feel free

include them in the final tally.

I=E2=80=99ll keep the polls open until sometime next Friday (that is, June =
26). At
that point, I=E2=80=99ll shut things down, calculate the results, and annou=
nce the
three games which will be our Meeples Choice Award winners for the year!
