So as a long time lurker and only extremely occasional contributor, I'm
going to briefly change my usual precedent and weigh in. I've subscribed to
the group for over a decade, but this is the first time I participated in
the vote. I was one of the five first rounders who did not vote in the
second. My reasoning was that, despite working at an FLGS and playing there
regularly during, at minimum, our weekly open gaming (back in the pre-mask
days), I had still only played five of the finalists and two of those only
once each, another only three times. The only two I had played more than
that were Wingspan, which I'll play if others suggest it, but am unlikely
to add to my collection and Res Arcana, which I certainly like, but don't
own yet. My votes would have been for Tapestry (1 play, finally a few days
ago got a copy, like it more than anything else by StoneMeier, but realize
I'm in the minority there), Glen More Chronicles (also 1 play, so mostly
based on my many plays and long search to finally own the original, not so
much on the base game changes, let alone chronicle-iness(sic)), and Res
Arcana. I would not have voted for Wingspan or The Quest for El Dorado
(IIRC that that is the Knizia, who I normally like quite a bit, but was
underwhelmed here mostly due to boringness of seemingly unbeatable
strategy, I've played three times I think and watched a few others). My but
that ran-on, perhaps I should learn what to use those '.'/full-stop
thingies for. Ah, well!

It's possible I miscounted, but I sure thought Wingspan had taken 7
categories and 8 if you include the European expansion taking the expansion
category. 8 of the 16 total, that is. Not at all a bad game, but whether it
actually won 6 or 8, I think it was several more than really deserved but
that's merely my (obviously minority) opinion.

All in all, nice to see three other games get accolades. Also good to see
the voting so I'll know what to keep an eye on if I ever play games in
public again (which I certainly hope I do as I see it as at least my and
most likely humanity's raison d'etre) . We even had/have a copy of Barrage
on our shelves that no one had really looked into yet.

So thanks for running the vote.
