My new laptop has Windows Vista installed, which for various reasons I must put up with. Its a reasonably powerful dual-core machine with an NVidia graphics card, so I expected TORCS to run well. When I ran the game though, I found that every 5 seconds or so there'd be a hiccup in the rendering of the game (which would freeze for half a second or so) and the sound (half a second of silence). Its enough to make driving a car impossible. Looking at the Task Manager I saw that TORCS was taking up 100% of _both_ CPUs. Having run into this problem in another game (Myth), I tried setting the affinity on TORCS to just one processor. All the jerkiness disappeared, with the graphics rendering smoothly. I've tested this on & off quite a few times now, and the affinity change always fixes the problem with no ill-effects at all. Therefore I've made a change to windowsspec.cpp, which basically sets affinity to a single cpu on startup. cheers Andrew <<windowsspec.cpp>> ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
