bug to use 3dwheel?

hello
I am new to the list. I am developing cars and circuits for torcs.
I had installed torcs from cvs since January 2009 and have also updated from cvs.
So far I used 3dwheel without problems but i can not upgrade in any way to use them. I have read in the lists that this is achieved with a patch that apparently is already included by default. It do not works for me.
Can this be an error in the latest updates.
