Adding a dashboard to a car

I've been trying some car conversions, following the tutorial on the
torcs site. Anyway, very often the car seems to be completely empty on
the inside, no floor, seats or dashboard, and it looks totally
ridiculous on the track (see example screenshot link below). Is there
any way to add those essential elements, however basic, to the .ac file,
so the car would actually look like one instead of a ghost on wheels? I
tried to add some rectangle inside the car like some kind of barrier,
but failed as usual. Nothing I add to the car texture.rgb makes a
difference as long as there's no corresponding element on the 3d model,
right?

If you care to give me some advice, remember I'm not an expert on this,
just trying things out on my own.
