Error while using timer_settime in own driver module

Hi,
    I have successfully installed Torcs-1.3.2-test1 and also managed to complete a race. Now i have added my own robot . I am using a timer_settime in my code for a small timer functionality. There seems to be no problems during make and make install inside my robot folder. My robot also shows up in a practice race. But when i try to start the race, it crashes with the error message

"undefined symbol : timer_settime " .

After some googling, i found out that we need to add a "-lrt" while compiling the code. However my problem is , i don't know where to add it, as everything is happening through Makefiles. Am i suppose to edit something in Make-default.mk or Make-config.in?

Could someone help me out with this?
