torcs compilation problem

I am trying to build the open race car simulator TORCS 1.3.6 on OSX Mavericks from source. It is originally released for Linux. I edited the configure script adjusting the GL paths to OpenGL/gl.h and to GLUT/glut.h, so they can be found on my system.

However, I can not find a way to link to GL/glx.h. I have XQartz installed, and glx.h can be found on my system at /opt/X11/include/GL. I have tried

./configure --x-includes=/opt/X11/include --x-libraries=/opt/X11/lib

but that doesn't help. Any clues?
