I'd like to propose something in the spirit of cooperative competition and the Good Of The Internet: Cyptosoft and Consensus get together off this list and see how close you two can get. This may be 0%, this may be 50%, this might be 90%. You two clearly have differences, but you also both have strong followings. Take a week or two, spend a bit of money on trans-Pacific phone bills if needed, but see how close you two can get. You probably don't need commentary from the rest of us, at least at this point, until you come back with some results. Even "we couldn't get anywhere because xxx" would be useful information for the rest of us. We promise to stay out of your hair until we hear from you. I believe that the two of you probably can work much of this out quickly, and then we can then help on the last bits. Starting with a blank sheet in this group or in the TLS WG is probably a bad way to get going; having the creators of two popular implementations is probably a very good way to get going. A little time spent on this now could save each of you (and the rest of us!) lots of time in the future. --Paul E. Hoffman, Director --Internet Mail Consortium
