example.com is a specially-reserved dns name, specifically intended for use 
in specifications and other technical documents.

allocation of a reserved name came about from having people read 
documentation and sometimes actually use the exact domain name used there. 
by reserving it, the DNS service can ensure that it never leads to a real 
host, over the public Internet.
